Are Recovery Housing Operators Really Seeing Record Occupancy in 2026?

No reliable data exists showing recovery housing operators reporting record occupancy rates in Q1 2026. The claim appears to be unsupported by industry sources.

The confusion comes from senior housing data flooding search results. According to the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care, senior housing occupancy hit 89.1% in Q4 2025, with some markets like Boston reaching 93.1%. But that's assisted living and independent senior communities. Not sober living homes.

Recovery housing operates in a data desert. SAMHSA doesn't track occupancy rates, nor does NARR. State recovery housing associations don't track it either. The industry lacks the centralized reporting that senior housing enjoys through organizations like NIC.

What we do know? Senior housing benefits from demographic tailwinds. The JLL 2026 Seniors Housing & Care Investor Survey projects the 80+ population will grow 36.6% over the next decade. Recovery housing faces different math. Demand fluctuates with addiction rates, treatment capacity, and economic factors that don't follow predictable demographic curves.

The senior housing boom tells us nothing about sober living occupancy. Different industries. Different residents. Different economics.

Warning

Be skeptical of recovery housing occupancy claims without named sources. The industry doesn't track this data systematically.
